7TH ANNUAL JONDO FLAMENCO FESTIVAL

Peña Buleria is pleased to present the 7th Annual Jondo Flamenco Festival, March 4 and 5, 2011 at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver, BC.

Three breathtaking performances over two days bring together local and international artists to showcase the art and evolution of flamenco.

“This is the seventh year of the Jondo Flamenco Festival,” says festival founder Pirouz Ebadypour. “Since its very first year in 2003, we’ve sought to enrich the quality and accessibility of flamenco on the West Coast. This year, we are featuring a number of exceptional international performers and fostering collaboration with local established and emerging artists.”

The 2011 festival will bring together the local flamenco community like never before. Leading Vancouver dance companies and independent professionals will share the program with world renowned artists from Spain, Iran and the USA.

“Vancouver has a thriving, vibrant flamenco community. The festival creates incredible opportunities for us to grow and learn as artists and aficionados,” says Mr. Ebadypour. “It’s a chance for us to learn from each other and to experience the privilege of collaborating with some of the most respected and talented performers the world has to offer.”

Audiences can expect to be enthralled by three rich, varied and exciting performances:

Friday March 4th @ 8pm - Las Perlas del Pacifico (The Jewels of the Pacific)

• Murcianas, Camino Largo: the newly formed local group in their first collaborative work, will be honouring sufferers of Dementia with an opening number.
• Karen Flamenco, Romeo and Juliet: a condensed presentation of the full-length theatrical production that premiered in 2010
• Mozaico Flamenco Dance Theatre, Cuadro Flamenco: a traditional flamenco performance celebrating the spontaneity, passion and power of flamenco song, music and dance with selections from the ongoing Café de Chinitas project

Saturday March 5th @ 2pm - Zyryab (Persian & Flamenco Fusion)

Internationally renowned artists from Iran fuse classical Persian instrumentation, harmonies, and aesthetics with flamenco. This new collaborative work by Ali Razmi and Pirouz de Caspio displays the natural musical and cultural relationship that exists between flamenco and Persian music from musical melodies and scales to presentation style. This event will also be accompanied by Flamenco Guitar and Dance. Artists in this production have repeatedly had sold out events in Vancouver! – don’t miss this incredible show.

Saturday March 5th @ 8pm - Una Nota Flamenca (Gala Performance)

A world-class flamenco performance featuring four electrifying dancers and internationally acclaimed musicians. This production which is artistically directed by Carola Zertuche and musically directed by Jose Valle "Chuscales", is an expression of flamenco dance that embodies the emotion ignited from a single musical note -- una nota flamenca – that will captivate the senses. Una Nota Flamenca combines extraordinary footwork and invigorating music into a deeply moving theatrical experience.
